DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT on “MARSHA”

As a filmmaker, I am fascinated by the spaces where our digital fantasies collide with our physical consequences. With Marsha, my goal is to bridge the gap between a high-tension psychological thriller and a necessary social critique. We live in a culture that often treats the dynamic of an older woman pursuing a younger man with a wink and a nod, framing it as a "coming-of-age dream" or a rite of passage for a lucky teenager. However, this narrative often masks a much darker reality of power imbalances and emotional manipulation. Through this film's lens, I want to subvert that trope, showcasing how these relationships, far from being a "win,” are often predatory and deeply detrimental to a young man’s psychological and social development.

The character of Kevin represents a generation of young men seeking solace in the "hyperreal" world of the internet to escape the isolation of reality. By wrapping this story in the framework of a crime drama, I want to mirror the internal "disappearance" of Kevin’s identity with the literal string of disappearances being investigated by Detective Garcia.
